Sixth Annual Double Reed Festival

 

 

The Midwest Double Reed Society and the University of Kansas Double Reed Studios presented the Sixth Annual Double Reed Festival on February 9-10, 2008 in Lawrence, KS.  Margaret Marco, associate professor of oboe and Eric Stomberg, associate professor of bassoon hosted the gala event.  Paige Morgan, associate professor of oboe at Ithaca College and William Davis, professor of bassoon at the University of Georgia, were this year’s distinguished guest artists. and Eric Stomberg, bassoon, and three recitals: the MDRS Member Recital, a performance of the Doublereed-O-Rama-Spectacular-Blow-Out Band, and a closing recital given by Festival hosts Margaret Marco and Eric Stomberg along with guest artist Alyssa McKeithen.

The Seventh Annual Double Reed Festival will take place October 4-5, 2008 at the University of Kansas. Margaret Marco and Eric Stomberg are excited to help co-sponsor the event with assistance from the Department of Music and Dance at KU. In addition to recitals and master classes, the MDRS 25th Anniversary Commissioning Project, spearheaded by our editor/webmaster Emily Helvering, will come to fruition at this time. A schedule of events and information on registration for the Festival will become available in September 2008.
